As the year comes to an end, election of board members to serve in 2025 is on the horizon. The board consists of President, Vice President, Treasurer, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, Communications Director, Cycling Directors(2), and Event Director. General Club Information

The Valley Spokesmen is a San Francisco Bay Area bicycle club based in Dublin California, approximately 15 miles southeast of Oakland. The club schedules both local and non-local rides. Emphasis is on road cycling, but mountain bike rides are also on the calendar. We provide a wide variety of club rides, ranging from short neighborhood tours suitable for families with children, to strenuous century-length epics. We encourage non-members to attend our club meetings and join us on any of our outings. Our group bike rides traverse the beautiful valleys around Mount Diablo. The Valley Spokesmen Bicycle Club was founded in August 1971. Membership has grown from 81 active members in 1972 to ~500 card-carrying members presently. Most of the group are young to middle-aged adults, both married and single, but member ages range from infant family members to active riders in their 80's.

Please join us on one of our group rides. Here is a brief description of some of the rides we offer. Most of our rides are offered weekly with a few being hosted on a monthly basis. Ride details, like starting location, time, route, etc., can be found on our ride calendar. Class 1 and Class 3 ebikes are welcome on most rides. If you have any questions about a particular ride, please contact the ride host. 

Friendly Friday - Weekly ride usually starts at Sports Basement in San Ramon. Rated 2L/M. Mostly easy grades with a few rolling hills. Leisurely/Moderate (12 to 16mph) with occasional regroups.

Varsity Youth - Starts at Mike's Bikes in Pleasanton every 2nd and 4th Saturday. Rated 1L, flat ride, leisurely pace, no drop.

Brisk Bunch-Weekly ride starts from various locations. Rated 4B, few regroups. Steep grades with some relief.  Brisk pace (19 mph).

Mellow Monday - Weekly ride with various starting locations. Friendly social pace. Rated 2/3 L/M. Easy to moderate grades. 12-16 mph pace. Occasional regroups.

Heather Farms, Monday-Weekly rides on Monday starting at Heather Farms. Monday rides are no-drop between 25 and 40 miles. Rated: 2 L/M.  Mostly easy grades with rolling hills. Leisurely/Moderate (12-16 mph)

Heather Farms, Wednesday-Weekly rides on Wednesday starting at Heather Farms. Wednesday rides are drop rides and may separate into multiple groups determined by rolling speed. Ride length between 35 and 55 miles. Rating 2/3 M/B. Rolling hills to moderate grades.  14-18 mph with occasional regroups.

VSRT LiT-VS Racing Team Livermore Inter-team training ride. Weekly ride that starts at Livermore Trek on Thursday nights. Rating 2S. Easy grades with rolling hills at a steady, strenuous, rapid pace. 22 mph.

Therapeutic Thursday-Weekly ride with various starting locations. Rating 2M, drop ride. Moderate pace (15 to 16 mph), occasional regroups.

Mt Diablo-Weekly ride up Mt Diablo on Wednesday starting at St Timothy's Church. Rated 4-5M. Steep grades with some relief, strong riders. Moderate pace.

Wapenshaw Wednesday-Weekly ride with various starting locations. Faster paced drop rides that may separate into two groups.  Rated 2/3M. Ride length between 35 and 55 miles with moderate grades with frequent regroups. 14 to 18 mph.

Feather Pedals-Monthly ride through most of the year, usually on Saturday. No drop ride with frequent regroups with a sweep. Rating 2/3 L/M. Easy to moderate grades. Leisurely to moderate pace. Starting in January, Feather Pedals hosts a 13 week series of training rides in preparation for Cinderella.

Cinderella Classic-Come participate in the Original Women Only Bike Ride. All routes have full SAG support should you need any assistance, fully staffed rest stops stocked with food and drinks, and a delicious lunch at the end of the ride. 

Mount Diablo Challenge- The Mount Diablo Challenge is a 11.2 mile timed cycling hill climb to the summit the first Sunday in October. Event and registration details can be found at www.MountDiabloChallenge.org

    2024 Family and Individual Memberships for both renewals and new members will be available on December 1st!

     Club Memberships are for a calendar year and run from January 1st to December 31st. 


    Discounted (50% savings) memberships from July 1st until November 1st. 

    The Valley Spokesmen are a welcoming group of cyclists that encourage riders of all levels to join our group rides. There are a variety of rides for different levels of riding. Some of our rides are listed on the ride calendar as Beginner Friendly, while others are listed as Advanced; choose a ride at a level that you feel comfortable with.

    The Historic Event to Celebrate 22 New Bike Turnouts on Mount Diablo occurred on August 24th!

    The Bike Turnouts are dedicated to Joe Shami "Legend of Mount Diablo."

    ALL of the money raised ($755,793.48) will go for Bike Turnouts! There will be 9 Bike Turnouts constructed on Southgate Rd, 4 on Summit Rd, and 9 on Northgate Rd. For a total of 67 Bike Turnouts on Mount Diablo!
